Charity
At the Wu De Martial Arts Association, we regularly hold self-defense, strength, and health-preserving training sessions. Beyond these, however, there are many activities that may be less visible but are still highly valuable and meaningful. These include community-building team weekend trips and camps. It feels wonderful to be in the company of like-minded people who share similar values, to have conversations with them, and to feel part of a true safety net, because we not only know but truly feel that we can rely on each other.
One example is our continuously developing junior teaching program, which, alongside self-defense techniques, boundary-setting tactics, and confidence-building games, also incorporates environmental awareness, etiquette, stress-relief exercises, and discussions on virtues.
Another example is our now-traditional charity initiatives, through which every year we identify who and where locally is most in need of our help. Below is a list of these initiatives:
-
2017: The Szeged Pediatric Clinic was able to purchase essential equipment worth HUF 174,000 from our donation.
-
2018: We collected HUF 110,000 for the kitchen of the Agyagos Street Nursery – with the motto “more free play, fewer gadgets.”
-
2019: We donated HUF 635,000 to the Premature Baby Foundation.
-
2020: We supported the Metro Works School of Performing Arts in upgrading their sound equipment with HUF 60,000.
-
2021: During the pandemic, our previous training venues were no longer available. With the help of our team, we worked on creating and developing a new space. Through brainstorming, physical work, and financial support, the Wu De Movement Space was established.
-
2022: We walked the streets of Fodorkert, collecting litter and setting a positive example for younger participants involved in the cleanup.
-
2023: We visited the Szeged Őszidő Senior Home, where we taught Chinese breathing exercises and Japanese therapeutic gymnastics over several weeks, and gave lectures on Chinese health preservation and Japanese health awareness. In autumn 2023, we donated two Mobile Tales books by Erika Czirják to the Somogyi Library’s North City Branch.
-
2024: The Wu De Community supported the Tappancs Animal Protection Foundation with a HUF 51,000 donation to aid the operation of the animal shelter and reduce stray animals.
-
2025: As part of our team cleanup campaign, we cleared streets of scattered cigarette butts, bottles, and other litter.
